KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Karachi has put Intelligence Officer Syed Adnan Kafeel off duty for breaking into a warehouse, housing smuggled goods, without search warrant.

Director Irfan Javed has also formed a team to investigate the raid conducted in Jodia Bazar and role of other officials. The team would start working on Monday.

A team of ASO Customs Intelligence and Investigation comprising Superintendent Sikandar Khanzada, IOs Shafi Jamali, Ahmed Junejo, Adnan Kafeel raided a portion of a building in Jodia Bazar.

There were around a dozen private persons including Mehmood and Shahzad etc accompanying the ASO staff.

The raiding team broke the locks of the premise and recovered foreign origin cigarettes and gutka etc.

The sepoys in the ASO team guarded the premises while private persons shifted the goods from the premise to the Directorate.

It was known that a substantial quantity of goods were left there. It is also rumored that the ASO team recovered Rs1.25 million from the raided place but mentioned much less in the report.

Allah Rakha a driver posted in Gwadar was also part of the raiding team.

It may be mentioned here that Director Irfan Javed had issued strict instructions that no private person should join ASO teams during raids. Moreover, no raid should be made without the search warrant.
